i can't see it having a comparitve advantage in PvE or PvP.... this build is not very good...
you say it is most similar to the way the assassin works... now ask yourself this... poeple in PvE hate assassins as it is.... now why would they like an assassin without double strikes and critical hits?
all in all its a lame build... but a very detailed and well written explanation

I'm agreeing with JR here.
Firstly, you have a lot of blood skills and some weapon skills, you'd be more effective completely focusing on or the other.
Second, you say not to use zealous. Your primary concern is running out of energy while in melee range, yet you discount the greatest tool to manage energy in melee. Wielding a zealous while in combat gives you 1 energy every 1.3 seconds, at the cost of 1 energy every 3 seconds of regen. As your life is under the effect of regen, it would be most effective to wield a Zealous sword/axe of Defence. I would also scrap the +5 energy - a max damage mod will give you +15% damage to your melee attacks and you lose a practically negligible energy amount which is made up with zealous-regen.
Your benefit over the warrior is ENERGY, so you don't need to put more into it, you should focus on improving the weak points of the combo and let your character's innate energy (especially if using a focus) more than cover needs.
Preacher, spirit has no effect on bite because bite is skill not spell.
Watch yourself is a very good skill to be using, the +20 armor brings you to 90AL, as strong as a warrior vs elemental and not far behind in physical. It also requires very few points in tactics to be fairly effective, as well as boosting your tanks if they do not have the skills, or your backline if mobs break through.

i agree. i just don't see how this build could ever contribute to the group. even if it is just pve. you may never die, but then you may never kill anything either.
the whole thing counts on 2 or 3 life siphons just to stay alive. and if you draw too much heat and want to drop back you really don't have anything to do. vamp gaze, shadow strike. big deal.
it's a build for people with necromancer posters in there room. you have really got to love the class to try and force your way into a group with this thing. i'd rather bring an assassin.

Damage level just seems too low. A Warrior with 16 in Axe Mast running Eviscerate with some sort of speed/damage buff would outdamage this by a ton, I would think. If you're gonna run a meleemancer why not at least use Spinal Shivers or Barbs or Weaken Armor to take advantage of your energy bonuses.
BTW, doesn't "Watch Yourself!" only affect those around the shouter, not the shouter himself? Secondly, I think I know the answer to this, but can it be stacked, say in a mob of W's?

Watch Yourself! affects those around the shouter and the shouter him/herself. Like the other shouts in the game it doesn't stack, think of the outcry if Charge stacked.

Do meleemancers really suck that much? I don't mean this build in particular, but is it completely impossible to use a primary necromancer in melee?
I don't feel like spending time and money on something that is unique, but completely useless...

Wow, some of this community is very ignorant
* This isn't as powerful as an axe warrior with Eviscerate
* This isn't as powerful as a full blown blood spike
No shit, Meleemancers are for people who like UNIQUE builds... I can tell you I outlive and outkill SEVERAL tanks/casters/ I'm pretty much usually the last to die.
Its just like a Rt/Nec thats an MM, are his minions as powerful as a full blown Necromancer.... absolutely not.... can his build still be effective, fun, and useful to his team ... once again, absolutely.
I was expecting ignorant pugs to respond just like you have... Why Meleemancer, why not full blown tank, why not full blown caster... well I for one run pretty much every build there is imaginable for the necromancer, and also for the warrior.
The Meleemancer is however very fast paced, non-stop action and very effective whether you prefer to be pig headed or not.
Its like soloing FoW when I 55 with my necro.... Is it more effective to do it as a team, YES, and its probrably faster to. But I prefer a challenge and doing things differently.
Invite me to your party... in ANY high end area I can stand on the front lines and do JUST AS MUCH DAMAGE as any warrior... and in case you didn't know it, This build doesn't rely on a monk for healing like your almighty tanks.... So we'll see whos still standing at the end of battle.
And as for damage for Warrior vs. Meleemancer..... I wouldn't be so quick to say a Tank is overpowering!
Axe Warrior: Eviscerate + Executioners + Penetraing Chop
Meleemancer: Shadow Strike + Hundred Blades + Severe Artery + Gash + Vampric Bite + Vampric Gaze
Both chains take about the same amount of time, given the warrior uses an adrenaline booster.. I'll let you do the math... oh and I used the skillbar for the Meleemancer that also uses Bleeding and deep wound, so u the almighty Eviscerate isn't all that powerful .... I own 99% of tanks in pvp, and outlast 99% in pve...
Not sure why so many people put things down before trying them, try it, if you don't like it don't use it.... Is it a normal build NO, does it work YES
People that like playing unique builds will love it, I wrote this for them, not for the pugs that run cooker cutter sheet builds for all their characters..
I have fun with my builds, it is a game you know, did you forget... it gets old only being able to be a successful necro as an SS or MM, try something new for once!

Many of us have tried Meleemancers. Many of us have disliked them because they are weaker than other meleers. That makes us ignorant?
There is also some constructive criticism in this thread, there's no need to be so sensitive about it.

First off, constructive critism is telling someone how to improve there build... not saying to dump the combination all together... thats why i say your ignorant... because I didn't post the 700th MM build or the 900th SS build...

I said they are like an assassin in the aspect of waiting in the backline letting the warriors aggro and then picking out a target.. can you read, probrably not
people like you guys are lame... yes that is an insult.. I would love to elaborate on this but I won't to prevent from being banned for the 20th time.
I run an MM build, an SS Build, A heavy Degen Build, a 55 build, a Dark Bomber build, .... etc
but I also run a Meleemancer build so I wrote a guide for people who would like to do the same but don't completely understand it.
Posting here to insult or discredit this build is pointless.... this is here for people that need it or want to try it or even give suggestions but in NO WAY is this here for you to spam reasons why Meleemancers are a wasted combination.
If this build and combination is so terrible I don't believe the mods would have PMed me asking to use it in a couple different sections..
EVERY profession has cookie cutter builds... SS and MM being the main two for necro.. healers and Protection monks.... but does that mean someone can't have an effective smiting build..NO
but for many of you if its not a popular build its wrong or worthless, its people like you that should uninstall guild wars and maybe even drop a bottle of painkillers well your at it
If I want to run a High Dmg Warrior then I run a High Dmg Warrior, this build isn't suppose to be compared to a warrior, or to a caster for that matter.... Its a completely different profession combination with its own strengths, weaknesses and uses!
THIS GUIDE IS FOR PEOPLE THAT WANT TO RUN A MELEEMANCER, ITS NOT HERE FOR PEOPLE TO CRITIZE AND SAY THAT MELEEMANCERS ARE A WASTE, GO POST YOUR FLAMES ELSEWHERE!

You only got a couple of overly critical comments, no reason to flip out on the people that posted, and you may not know it, but you just posted alot of flamebait... I saw some skeptics, but no reason to tell them to uninstall guildwars and kill themselves...on top of calling them ignorant for not seeing the potential of the builds you posted. To be honest, it looks a bit promising to me, I would try it but Im short on the money and cannot afford a decent sword, building the adrenaline up then shadowstriking(or lifebaning) and sever+gash to put additional damage in.

I wasn't talking about every person that posted, I was simply refering to the few that like to post just to put down not just the build, but Meleemancers in whole....
Theres certain builds I dislike, but I wouldn't post in a guide and tell them its garbage because I dislike it..... theres no reason for posting bs like that....
I still thank people for comments and suggestions, but like I stated, this Guide is for future Meleemancers and for the people interested in the build, This thread doesn't really concern me anymore because its going into the Article and Guides section and into rencent news... people will be able to view it, the ones that actually wanna be a Meleemancer... and the people that just like to flame won't be able to...
ty to the rest of the communinty, just not welcoming trash into this thread..
This isn't a HERES MY BUILD PLZ COMMENT thread, its a GUIDE for beginner Meleemancers... simple as that!

Undead, I see where you are coming from since I myself run a melemancer in TA at times, but as a E/W or more often as a E/N. Flame posts are simply people who take the game far to seriously, this is still just a game. I caught a lot of flack also when i brought a melemancer into PvP but the fastest way to silence them is to just show them what you can do and if they still give you flack then challenge them. Heck i did that for a bit and it was quite satisfying seeing them run away or dead. GW is supposed to be fun, not a job folks, lighten up. Cookie cutter builds are fine if people like to do that but being a melemancer is for those of us who have played with so many different builds that we want something different. Those of you who do not like melemancers then fine you have your reasons but flaming is not necessary.

this thread was dead for a few days. many viewed it but no one would post. maybe because it was a perfect build and there was nothing to say......or maybe because it was a necro/warrior build and people that have been around already know the deal.
but when new guys start chiming in about how great it looks we can't help it. the new guys have to know both sides. i just don't know why you get so pissed when people criticize your builds.
you like it, that's great. but if you post anything here you know what will happen. you've seen it before.

holden,
your correct all builds posted are subject to criticism...which is why poeple need to be prepared for that but some posters go a bit to far. calling a guild garbage is not necessary, just point out what is wrong with the build and leave it as that. anyone would get pissed if somebody called their build garbage without any rhyme or reason.
The one thing that I myself do not like is when somebody runs a melemancer in PvE or PvP without telling the team. More often or not this happens which may contribute to the melemancer hate. Pugs looking for casters getting an extra mele fighter would piss anyone off. So for those of you who will run this or any other melemancer build...please tell your pug before hand as to not give melemancers an even worse name then there already is. And for those of you who have never run a melemancer, just give it a shot...it can be very fun and effective in certain facets of the game.

The whole point is to make different builds and have fun creating them and/or playing them. If you use the Bunny Thumper Build or a MM build that everyone uses, but you can't make it work, then you say it sucks. Not all builds work everywhere, some only work in certain areas. Its okay to criticise people's builds, just as long as you either:
a) advise on how to make it better;
b) question the build on certain scenarios; or
c) play it for a while and state what you find as being weak on, and describe the situation where you feel it was.
I've Read Undead Preacher's build and I was interested. Unfortunately, I've tried a few different builds with my N/W before killing him off. Maybe some day I'll change my N/Me to a N/W and see how I fair. But for now, I love my N/Me and the way I played my previous N/W, I was poor using him.
Undead Preacher, good guide and glad it works for you.

I apologise. As a competitive player that enjoys actually doing well in this game I generally have a problem with sub-par builds. You are obviously quite happy with them, so we shall leave it at that. I would like to clarify though; nowhere, not once, ever, did I flame. Just because I have a negative opinion about something you posted and expressed that in a rather blunt manner does not mean you can tag it and bag it under flaming, trying to discredit my opinion and give me a bad name.
Don't be so surprised when you post something on a public forum and get impugning responses, to quote the legendary 2-pac; 'that's just the way it is'.
Again, I apologise if I hurt your feelings, but remember Preacher: Big girls don't cry.
